Found a lost pigeon?

First ensure the bird has some water available, & give it some seed in case it's hungry (Parrot seed is fine, or even some rice, if nothing else is available try bread.)

Check the legs for a registration ring (life band made of anodized aluminium) some breeds have long foot feathering so you may have to hunt through the feathering to find it, often these breeds the ring may be up high on the thigh. Once found write down all the numbers & letters on the ring.

If the letters "NPA" appear, you are in luck, as the ring was issued by the Australian National Pigeon Association (ANPA) & can be traced to the the club & individual that bought the batch that ring number was in.

To search out the owner of an ANPA rung bird yourself, click here---> Ring Registry

(Please Note this is a 500kb page so may take a minute or 2 to download)

Important Note: If the ring does not have the letters "NPA", you will need to check other sources. if the ring has a clear plastic protective coating, the probability is, its a racing pigeon. So you will need to check for Racing Pigeon clubs on the web. Below are some state contacts for Racing pigeons. Always start with the club closest to you first. Good Luck.
